How I Fell in Love With Adversity

A man overcoming adversity and continuing on.

I had just graduated college and had no idea what I wanted to do. I had a wonderful internship the previous year, several job offers, and a desire to do anything except what I had just spent 4.5 years studying.

What was the rest of my life going to look like?

This is where I found myself in the fall of 2019.

With no idea what 2020 had in store, I decided to turn down those job offers and begin a marketing start-up in my hometown with a business partner.

Bright-eyed and lacking any idea what the real business world was like, we added a few clients and life was great.

Then March came around, we were in month two of our business and COVID was now in the United States. We could no longer network and we could no longer meet in person.

Bills still needed to be paid, yet with only 6 clients and two mouths to feed, that was not possible.

So we had to pivot.

Fortunately, in a previous life, my business partner operated an extremely successful pressure washing business right out of high school.

Here I was, having just graduated with an engineering degree, with all these plans to run a highly successful marketing company, and I was out washing houses to make ends meet. It was humbling. It was…
